Where to Fish

North Central Ontario

This is Ontario's year-round playground for anglers - a premier vacation destination offering a variety of sparkling lakes and rivers. Its boundaries extend north to the spectacular coastal beauty of the James and Hudson Bay lowlands and south to the rugged Lake Superior shoreline of Algoma Country. From cottage country to unsullied wilderness, this region has it all!

In Algoma Country's multitude of inland waters, walleye, northern pike, bass, panfish, and several trout species supply angling memories that are sure to last a lifetime.

Near James Bay, spectacular fishing can be found throughout more than 150,540 square miles (390,000 square kms) of incomparable natural beauty. This area is renowned for great sport fishing and its unspoiled wilderness setting. Here you can fish for trout, walleye, northern pike, sturgeon, and more.

Fly-in Fishing

The fly-in fishing in this region is legendary. In the Hudson Bay lowlands (the third largest wetland in the world), fish the famous Sutton River for some of the largest brook trout on the planet. Or fly-in to a remote outpost on the Albany, one of many coastal headwater rivers where a great fishing adventure awaits.

North Central Ontario also offers other bodies of waters, complete with resorts, cottage rentals, marinas, and attractions to make your stay a memorable one. Bring your family and friends along and enjoy great fishing or some fun in the sun.

Ice Fishing

If you prefer ice fishing away from the crowds and ice hut villages that dot many of Ontario's most popular lakes, then a winter visit to North Central Ontario is where you want to be. Here you may not find waterbodies that offer a dozen ice hut operators to choose from, however there are dozens and dozens of cottage resorts on smaller inland lakes that will set you up with a winter ice fishing package that will keep you coming back for years to come.

Enjoy peace and solitude while fishing a lake that sees only a few hard water fishing enthusiasts every year. What others miss in terms of North Central Ontario's ice fishing experiences, will be your gain: Exceptional northern pike, walleye, trout (rainbows, brookies and lakers) whitefish and yellow perch fishing ... plus some bonus salmon if you're dropping a line down a hole in Batchawanna Bay near Wawa on Lake Superior, only half an hour north of Sault Ste. Marie and the Michigan border. And if your primary objective is to enjoy one of North Central Ontario's many spectacular snowmobiling packages ... why not consider adding an ice fishing component to that trip? Two great winter activities in one great unspoiled region of Ontario... Life just doesn't get much better than that!

We have more waters than a person could explore in a lifetime, as well as a wide range of welcoming accommodations, ranging from rustic to luxurious. Stay at a relaxing resort or a cozy cottage. And, while our fishing is incredible, you'll be amazed at how much more there is to do here. Try your hand at water-skiing or kayaking, soak up local attractions, or have a good old-fashioned picnic. North Central Ontario is a truly great vacation spot for families.
